Does kink belong at Pride?
Yes, kink absolutely belongs at Pride.
In fact, a lot of the people who are a part of the Stonewall riots were leather folk, were kinksters.
Kink has always been a part of Pride.
In fact, Pride’s origins are not as like a family-friendly get together.
Pride was a riot.
Pride is a protest and so kink is always a part of Pride.
The kink community and the gay community are deeply intertwined and have been for ages and ages.
So yeah, kink absolutely belongs at Pride.
Kink is a part of Pride.
Kink is amazing.
We love it.
You cannot disentangle the history of leather and kink from the history of queers and queer rights.
PupAmp does a great video about this that I will find a link for and make sure my assistant includes when this gets posted.
But kink has always been a part of Pride.
It's key to it.
Even throughout all of queer history and more recent years, kink and leather communities have been super essential in the ways that they take care of people, that they make sure that people have chosen family that they have access to.
So yeah, kink belongs with Pride.
It’s supposed to be there.
If you see something at Pride that upsets you, look somewhere else or go home or go somewhere else, right?
Kink is not supposed to be something that appeals to everybody equally or that everybody feels 100 percent great about.
Pride is supposed to be a space for us to be who we are and to show who that is and that may not be palatable to everybody and that is great.
It’s perfect because if you’re palatable to everybody, you’re doing respectability politics and probably getting ready to throw other queer folks under the bus.
So yeah, kink belongs with Pride.
